week 3

The tools I used today are really helpful in having access to new information in a pretty efficient and easy way to use. Feedly has a variety of sources to pick and choose from, as well as DiggReader. They provides means to search for feeds by category. These tools will help me explore new material in a much quicker pace and will help me start sharing information that I am interested in with people. After graduation, I believe that I will continue my education to graduate school to advance in the profession I am aiming for. These tools will definitely come in handy now and further on in my career.

Week 2

Twitter is a great social media site that anyone can use to share thoughts and ideas or to just surf the web in your free time. Stay updated on post of those who you follow and share content that you like. social media keeps growing and it is getting more and more popular. Using any social as a professional tool is a great way to get your name out there and especially twitter since its one of the most popular sites. The more you tweet and share interesting content the more followers you gain and be able to become one of those twitter pages that share certain thoughts and content. You have to get comfortable and post quality tweets to get the audience you are aiming for when using twitter professionally.

Also, jobs and  schools now look up your name on social media and get an overview of who you are and what your interests are. Therefore, one must be careful when trying to use social media as a professional page. Don’t be stupid and post reckless and careless pictures of yourselves at parties or doing something illegal. Posting a picture of you blacked out at a party on a school night is no where near professional. Whatever you do, keep your personal life separate from your applicants and social medias. Applying at a job and not expecting them to look up your name and see you blacked out by a bush with inappropriate drawings on your face is not a good look for you and will most likely not get a call back.

To be as professional as you can, you have to be organized and post things online that are helpful and accessible for people. Connecting with peers and others on social media help you to expand your knowledge.By interacting with others leads to plenty of new discoveries you might’ve never thought of on your own and  you start to question things differently. Having someone to bounce similar ideas off of and different perspectives on the same issue will lead to different conclusions that help you and the person interacting with. Social media is a great tool to connect with others on any topic and possibly come to different conclusions and that is part of the learning process. Is by sharing with others and taking the material and making it your own.

Organization is one of the major factors to a professional site. Using the site Diigo, a powerful collaborative social bookmarking tool to keep your thoughts in order. Learning how to organize your thoughts and ideas to share with others will lead to greater and more interesting posts.

Overall, social media is a great tool to use to get your name out there and seek for the profession you want. Do not expose too much of your private life on any social media source. Keep it nice and interesting, if you are looking to get in any job or school. Stay connected with the world and stay updated on what is going on around you. Knowledge will lead to many great paths and interacting with others will lead you to different point of views. It would ultimately lead to many with similar ideas and would be interested in what you share.

Week 1

The world has so much to offer and we can do the least by learning from it and applying it to our own personal life. Creating a professional blog is a great idea to get your name out there and recognized. A professional, reflective and positive blog may help you share your thoughts and opinions on certain topics and have those that follow you agree or disagree with your words. And those that disagree could spark up a conversation and you may be able to get your point across in a respectful and professional way. A blog is your reflective opinion and thoughts on a web page for those who have had similar ideas may look at yours and relate. It is an overall great idea to get started on the internet for recognition and improving yourself on the topics one may discuss.

Now depending on your interests and career goals blogging may or may not be beneficial for you. For example, if one wants to become a journalist or a writer, this may suit him/her and help get their voice out there. However, for instance another may like to be a doctor. Blogging may not be all that great but one may talk about related topics to their career to further their understating and to share with those that are curious about the career. All in all, blogging is a great way to put your voice out there and get recognized.
