THE FINISH LINE

One of the worst feelings in the world is dedicating your time and effort into anything in life and cutting it short. Whether that being, school work, fitness goal, a relationship or even a job position you been applying for, coming so close to the prize and just falling short. Ending up back to where you started, taking too many steps back or maybe falling back to the bottom and having to start all over again. The desperate desire of finally achieving, tasting the sweet victory you been striving for all along. Your mental taste buds have been craving that feeling of accomplishment and the satisfaction you have always wanted. But you end up failing and never giving the chance of mentally licking or tasting that prize you’ve been dying to taste, not one lick. That has been the metaphor throughout my lifetime. A skill I tend to lack and improve on. My journey here on Earth, each and every day of my 19-year-old self, going on 20, has come to the realization that I always cut myself short. Regardless of the path, or the goal I try to accomplish I seem to be giving up or slacking during the times that matter the most. Afterward, I have this sincere feeling of regret and guilt, of falling so short. I tend to blame myself a lot for not working as hard as I should be throughout that particular task.

To put this more into perspective,

imagine yourself running in a triathlon competing for first place. You’ve done all the necessary and possible requirements to help you win the race. Confidently enough to win, yet terrified out the negative outcome of losing. It is during that time, your mind begins to deteriorate your mindset into losing. Furthermore, you start the race strong, keeping everything under control, breathing, running pace, and running position. Now visualize yourself running until the end and coming onto that last 400-meter mark of the race. The final stride to the finish line. Finally, be able to see the crossing line with your very own eyes. You start to get more and more nervous, as you come to finish. Your heartbreak is beating extremely fast, heavy breathing, and tired body. You cannot believe it, you’re about to make it. You’re about to win. Assuring yourself that you worked hard enough to deserve such a victory. then suddenly your system starts shutting down. You are running out of breath quicker, legs getting heavier to lift your body up each step, arms flapping, people cheering. At this point, you feel like you’re mentally and physically exhausted as if you cannot continue. Comfortable enough to finish, you start to slow down as you keep heading towards the end. This is it! You worked hard enough to come this far, but you stupidly enough slowed down, getting too comfortable, too confident, too arrogant. Suddenly you hear another set of footsteps right behind you. the man in second place’s shadow creeping up on you, catching up and that is when you start to panic the most. Coming closer you pick up your pace again and oops, out of nowhere you stumble and trip over a small rock that no one, not even yourself, can see and that caused you the race. People thinking you tripped over yourself, because of your sloppy running form and slow pace before the finish line. As you’re falling, you witness someone else, crossing the finish line before you. In your mind the person who should have been in second place guy. Seeing first place, going to someone else, that you think doesn’t deserve it as much as you do. Another person that nowhere near worked as hard as you for this race but he was the one that ended up winning. He won because he was not the one that slowed down, at the most important part of the race. That came to the final stride, and instead of slowing down like you did, rather put on his burners, bypassing you, to finish first. Him having the discipline of finishing all the way through and never slowing down. Not simply being satisfied with the outcome of coming out in second place. Convincing his capabilities to work harder, run faster, suffer more now and get the glorious prize of crossing first. As he sees you trip he ceases the opportunity of your fall and commits all the way through to the end, winning that first-place trophy.

This man did not give up, he did not make the same mistake as you by, slowing down and running, not on mine, but his own pace. That is the true disciplinary factor to any successful person. Staying true to themselves, and never giving up. Unlike you, thinking you’re guaranteed the prize, convincing yourself to slow down, to take it easy, and that the trophy will be there for you at the end. That the trophy will come to me itself. False, nothing is guaranteed. Think to yourself, constantly, “did I work hard enough?” “Did I do everything I possibly could?” Did I have the same the effort and motivate as I started? Because of the further away you are from the start, the further your motive decline, losing sight of the reason you started.

YOUR MIND CANNOT GIVE UP BEFORE YOUR BODY. Stop convincing yourself that you did enough, that “I worked hard enough, I deserve this, I will win, I got it” Bullshit! You will never win with that type of mindset. Sadly, I and I am sure several of people tend to take things that way. Manipulating yourself towards the end that, you start ” You are actually going t lose, if I don’t commit till the very end.” To fill your desire of winning that prize, or maybe running a faster time than before, or whatever goal you are pursuing to follow through all the way to the end. Or else, all your hard work will go to shallows. The moment of glory you worked profusely hard for. Reminiscing on the countless hours of training, preparing and practicing for this race to end up failing yourself. It is till the last step across the finish line, to stop. Even if that means till your last breath, your last stride, to keep on fighting. Because if you believe, you will achieve.

The hard times, where you are out of your comfortable zone, tired, and weak is when cannot stop grinding! In fact, you must work much harder.  Challenge your mental toughness, discipline yourself. Be true to yourself. Finish what you started. Finish what you promised yourself. By leaping, diving, or even crawling to the finish line no matter first or not, never give up. No rock, no obstacle, no mind, can defeat you. It is unacceptable to be lazy, to make excuses, to talk your way out of things. Most people give up on their dreams because it gets too hard. DO NOT BE LIKE MOST PEOPLE. Be unique and stay true to yourself.

Week 12

For our final assignment we used Google site to choose a template and to create our own unique website. I chose a template then adjusted and fixed the page as I wanted. I made a website about my new hobby, photography and how I like capturing moments and beautiful places. I discovered that photography forces me to take a second look at something instead of assuming anything right away. Certain images  send out different messages to people and trying to shift your perspective on not just photos but anything in life to understand where that person coming from. Different point of views of an image have differnt focus points and subjects. To understand how others depict a certain image one must be open minded, understanding and creative to understand the person in front of them. Taking certain shots to create the perfect focus points and perfect overall image.

week 11

Throughout this entire course I started using new and unique tools I have never really used before (besides twitter). The majority of the tools we used were to help us see how to get recognized out there in the social media world and learn new tools that may benefit us for our future careers. Simply expressing my experience throughout each assignment and mentioning how I used each tool was pretty interesting because I felt like a learned more by describing each tool and how its used, so that way I can familiarized myself with the tools and not have to struggle as much as the first time. Also, it is always good to document your work, that way if you can go back and look at your work if you would like to prefer to anything from previous assignments.

I view college as a job-training and life-training. It is job training , because I am trying to receive a degree in order to be qualified for the job I am seeking as well as getting accustomed to the tools and equipment I need to familiarize myself with. And college could also be a life training by experiencing adulthood and responsibilities and whatever life throws at you along the way.

week 10

In this weeks assignment we had to screen cast our “cool tool” website that we previously shared for week 8. I used the jing application to screen cast and share the website Powtoon to show how to go through the website. Powtoon is a website to mkae short animations of anything you want and the website helps you with ideas and provides options to help you create a video. I think jing is a really neat tool to share anything off of your personal screen to any of your peers or your intended audience. I struggled making this video s few times but finally got the hang of it.

Week 8

I was suggested to use Pawtoon.com as a tool for this weeks assignment. I started exploring Pawtoon and figured out that its a creative website that animates videos and guides through creating your own with really cool animations. It is easy to follow along and easy to get audiences engaged into the animation.

I also created a personal website that reflects upon myself and my career goals. This is just a test website for class that still needs to be worked on. I tried editing as much as I could and for some reason I could never change the title of the Website. However, I think it is really interesting to be making your own website for others to see.

Week 7

Making my future resume was really helpful in really getting down on what I need to do  to achieve my career goal. Whether that be from education, awards and goals I need to focus on to get to where I want to do after college. I created a simple and brief resume that helped me collect my thoughts for the future. We shared it with the University of Delaware just to be out there and with colleagues. This is a temporary resume for the future and will be adjusted and fixed along the way.

Week 6

Copy righting is a legal right created by the law of a country that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution. We need copy right laws to secure the creators original work and the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same. It helps keep content original and secure to the proper ownership of any material. Without any laws regulating creations, any new material would be copied immediately without any recognition to the creator. No one would be encouraged to continue creating new content because they would know that their hard and original work would be copied with no credits. In that form, that is considered to be plagiarism.

I do not consider Remixing to be an extreme form of plagiarism. Because its just feeding off of other peoples ideas and producing/remixing similar ideas into your own work. For example, one could be interested in a video but would like to do things differently on his own. So that person could use a similar plot/story of a video but originate it into their own work by making new characters or having other objects or ending the video much differently than the original video. People take ideas off of each other and create their own all the time. Its bouncing ideas and creating new interesting features. However, I can also see how remixing may be considered plagiarism. By taking a creators material and remixing their own work fairly similar to the content that they took ideas off of. For instance, the Led Zepplin taking the tune off of Willie Dixon “bring it on home” and having the same title, intro and outro to the song without giving any credit to Willie Dixon himself or his producer. I consider plagiarism to be taking content off of an originator and producing almost the exact same without any twists or remixes to the content and no credits to the original artist. Everyone wants to sound original and make it seem like they created new material on their own but its always good to give credit to those who inspired you or you gained ideas off to give the original artist his fair share. As the videos said, Everything is remixed so its just a matter of giving credits to the proper owners.

Week 5

For this weeks assignment we had to watch a few informational videos about how to use your social media networks for a profession or your personal life. What is important to say and what is not supposed to be mentioned when on a professional account. I also learned that what I post professionally would be interesting for the group of audience I am aiming for. If not, what can I do to improve my content and attract the audiences I want. Also, other videos showed how a personal learning network page can benefit me in finding better opportunists and to stay connected to peers interested in the same field of study I am in. Another key factor to improving my information and to provide interesting facts is to be organized and to be able to bounce ideas off of with peers. Therefore, Symbaloo is a personal page that helps you explore how you could turn space into an information dashboard that you can use to collect information you want access at any time and help me keep up professionally.  Finally, I found a few professional people that have their own websites and social medias that may be reliable.

  1. Mike Reinold: Elite physical therapist in sports perfromances

Michael M. Reinold, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS is considered a leader in the field of sports medicine, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement. As a physical therapist, strength coach, and performance enhancement specialist, Mike uses his background in sport biomechanics, movement quality, and muscles imbalances to specialize in all aspects of human performance. Also, is the founder and president of Champion Physical Therapy and Performance, an elite level performance facility that integrates physical therapy, fitness, and sports performance training just outside Boston in Waltham, MA. I would personally follow him to get more information in what and how he does his job.

  2. Steve Cook: a fitness model/ professional personal trainer

Steve ultimately has his own career set with a big group of audience and has a well understanding of the field he is in. He has multiple social media sites such as Facebook, you tube, Instagram and twitter and seems to be interactive and responsive to what his audience like to hear and see. He works with many of fitness and supplementation companies including Bodybuilding, Optimum nutrition and Mens physique, that he has won 1st place in several of the shows he participated in. I personally do currently follow him and learn a lot of cool and interesting ideas off of him.

Week 4

For this weeks assignment we had to review our social media tools and work with Diigo again. The assignment was to annotate and highlight a portion of an article that I previously added to Diigo. I Highlighted the three most important paragraphs I thought were most relevant. I then added a sticky note and brief description to the sentence I thought best tied back the main idea of the article. These features helps me organize my information, thoughts and ideas all in one place. It’s really helpful to organize thoughts to share with others and just to have that for myself. Afterwards, we used Bitly.com that is mainly used to provide easier access to important and relevant web pages. It shortens the length of the URL making it easier for someone to remember the exact website. Bitly also organizes the web pages in an easy to use and more efficient way of keeping track of large amounts of information. Bitly was good to explore more websites and articles in this weeks assignment and for future assignments.
